Over the last few weeks as many of the customers find out I’ve purchased the store, I often get asked how long natural health has been a part of my life. Without getting into too many details, I try to explain what led me down this path but I think the time has come to elaborate and get a little more personal. I’ve come to know many of you over the last year and a half and I think it’s only fair that I tell you a bit about my life.My first interest in natural health started when my dad was diagnosed with cancer when I was in my early 30’s. That’s when I started learning about different health supplements, especially Essiac Tea and cleanses etc. I slowly learned about the industry and started visiting health stores, of course Naturally Healthy was one of them. Sadly, I lost both my parents to cancer and my curiosity of the disease itself grew as did my love of the natural health industry. It was definitely a slow and gradual learning process because we had another business at the time that we were busy operating and of course life carried on. Fast forward to 2008, I was pregnant with my youngest son. Although I was at what they considered an “advanced maternal age” the pregnancy was non eventful and everything was great. I had a c section because the dr was worried about the baby being large (my first one was almost 12lbs), they felt it was the best option. Something my body doesn’t like about the medication for spinals because it unfortunately shut down my bowels and about 12 days later, they ruptured. I had 2 life saving surgeries within days and was put into an induced coma to try and save my life. Here my husband was trying to run a business and they sent him home with a new born baby and we had a 3 yr old at home, plus now he had me in the hospital. The dr’s told him he should probably make “arrangements” because they really didn’t think I would pull through.Not to drag this out too long, it took me a good few years to get through the recovery and the other surgeries, both emotionally and physically and that’s when my interest in natural health took a sharp right. When I say that Mary and Anna helped me out so much during that time, that’s a major understatement but they were an integral part of my healing journey.Then there’s my love for photography. That’s basically how I started into that as well. It enabled me to heal emotionally and physically; I think that’s why it has such a special place in my heart.Anyhow, that’s a bit about my story and how life lead me down the path to where I am today. I am honoured to be able to continue to serve you and keep this little store of ours a staple in the community.
